As a coffee company born in the Falkland Islands, we’re proud to support those who have such a strong connection to our home.

In SAMA 82’s own words

SAMA 82 was founded on 2nd April 1997, the fifteenth anniversary of the uninvited arrival of Argentine forces in the Falkland Islands in 1982.

A task force was assembled and dispatched to the South Atlantic to restore Her Majesty’s Sovereignty. On 14th June 1982, Major General Jeremy Moore, Royal Marines was able to announce to the world that the Falkland Islanders were, once again, living under the Government of their choice; seventy-four days of Argentine occupancy and governance had come to an end.

In excess of 255 members of the task force died as a result of the conflict. Over 600 were wounded and required hospital attention: a significant number became subject to life changing disabilities and mental health issues through Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Three Falkland Islanders also lost their lives in the fighting.

Those who received the South Atlantic Medal were united in a bond of fellowship, together with their families, relatives and friends who endured the prolonged anxiety and concern at home.

November’s Whitehall Cenotaph National Memorial Service became an intense emotional experience, along with feelings of sadness and loss, on specific anniversaries, such as the land battles of Goose Green, Mount Harriet, Tumbledown, Two Sisters, Wireless Ridge and Mount Longdon, or the death in action of a friend and comrade elsewhere, perhaps at sea, or closer to shore at Fitzroy Cove, or in the Battle of San Carlos Water, or the loss of the comrade’s ship.

The purposes of SAMA 82 are to:

  • Promote and maintain contact between our beneficiaries and members, and former members of the armed forces, the Merchant Navy, and other units, who served in operations, in the South Atlantic in 1982, and with serving members of the armed forces and general public.
  • Education of the public and members of the armed forces in matters relating to operations in the South Atlantic in 1982.
  • Commemorating the contribution made by those United Kingdom participants who died through action during operations in the South Atlantic in 1982.
  • Provide relief and grants to medal holders and dependants, who are in need.
  • Sponsor return visits to the Falkland Islands for veterans needing relief from trauma or distress caused by their involvement in the 1982 South Atlantic operations.

Finally, and perhaps most importantly, is the bond of friendship and comradeship with the residents of the islands, and the South Atlantic Community, brought about by their shared objectives, experiences and success.

Marlene Harris

Had my first taste of the Falklands Coffee at Rose's Coffee Shop today. Loved it. Thoroughly enjoyed my brew. Can't wait until the ground coffee comes out (and I can have it every day)

Aaron Press

Coffee arrived here in Plymouth about an hour ago, just in time for my morning coffee. Brewed up in the cafetiere. The coffee was lovely. Will definitely be ordering again from here. Thank you for allowing me to be one of the first batch for international delivery.

Kyle Buchanan

Just coming to the end of my first ever bag - it did not disappoint!
